About The Event
Baltimore Boom Bap Society welcomes a return to live performance in their new home at Le Mondo! To kick off this new monthly event, BBBS will host a special salon-style show, hosted by local hip-hop favorite Eze Jackson, this Friday at 8PM. Admission is $5-10 cash at door!
WHAT TO EXPECT
Rather than the usual format (distinct sets of music featuring different invited emcees), Friday's band will present one extended set with changing guests of honor, leading to an open cypher, and closing with an informal reunion hang with everyone the crew has missed for the past few years! Come join us for this family celebration and monthly shows every last Friday of the month at Le Mondo!
WHO YOU'LL SEE
Featuring: Live electronic textures and beats created by Wendel Patrick and DJ Dubble8 will be joined by Rafaela Dreisin on trumpet, Jamal Moore on winds and percussion, Jeron White on bass, and beatboxer Chuck The Madd Ox. Along with our invited musicians, the space will be opened to other emcees, poets, and vocalists in attendance.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Baltimore Baltimore Boom Bap Society is a collaboration between producers Erik Spangler (DJ Dubble8) and Wendel Patrick. Their monthly improvised hip hop series is conceived as a forum for experimentation and collaboration between local hip hop artists, while placing hip hop in dialogue with other forms of music. Wendel Patrick & DJ Dubble8 invite special guests from Baltimore and beyond to perform with them in diverse combinations and explore a hybrid of free improvisation and beat-based composition. This much-lauded series ran from 2011-2019 at the beloved and now-shuttered Windup Space. After a two year hiatus, we are so excited to give them a new performance home for experimentation, collaboration and community-building.
