FILM: Final Girls Film Fest | Best Shorts of 2026

Le Mondo is proud to announce our THIRD year of hosting the Final Girls Film Festival! Each year, this group brings us short horror cinema that’s directed, written, or produced by women, trans, and non-binary filmmakers. 

Named one of the top horror festivals in the world by Dread Central, Final Girls Berlin has been described as a “top showcase of horror cinema directed, written, or produced by women and non-binary filmmakers, making it one of the very few of its kind in the world.” With around a third of its lineup programmed from submissions, Final Girls Berlin’s slate of premieres included the German premieres of Brea Grant’s 12 Hour Shift and Kier-la Janisse’s Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched, and the Berlin premiere of Rose Glass’ Saint Maud. Come see what they have waiting for us behind the curtain this year!

Final Girls Berlin Film Festival showcases horror cinema that’s directed, written, or produced by women, trans, and non-binary filmmakers. We are committed to creating space for female and gender non-conforming voices and visions, whether monstrous, heroic, or some messy combination of the two, in the horror genre. We've seen more than enough representations of women as beautified victims and constructions of male fantasies or anxieties, and are working towards the primacy of women as subjects and storytellers in horror. 

The “final girl” horror trope refers to the last woman standing in a horror film, who manages to escape or defeat the film’s villain/monster (e.g. in ALIEN and HALLOWEEN). While “final girl” is an ambivalently feminist figure in film criticism, often de-sexualized and tainted with the male director’s moralization and punishment of other female characters’ behavior, the festival utilizes this figure as a starting point for carving out space for new and undiscovered positions of power for women in horror, not only in front of but also behind the camera. (FGBFF's definition of women includes anyone with female experience –past or present– and is trans-inclusive. Anyone who feels addressed by the term is welcome to submit their films to the festival.)

A trans woman performs a Satanic ritual to get a vagina, but unwittingly invites a demonic presence into her home which demands a terrible sacrifice.

Jeff (24:34)

Written and directed by Julia Hebner, USA, 2025

On a quiet night, phone sex operator Marcia receives a call from Jeff, a man seeking refuge in the anonymity of the hotline in order to relieve himself of confessions. Marcia is used to the sometimes unsettling proclivities of her callers, but Jeff's increasingly disturbing admissions unmoor Marcia's sense of truth and memory and test her limits of empathy and forgiveness.
