The Rivers Are Our Brothers is a set of songs by singer-songwriter and musicologist Majel Connery, and imagines the personhood and personalities of great bodies in nature: the air, the clouds, the trees. Originally conceived for voice and small groups of instruments, the piece was adapted for and recorded by the GRAMMY-winning choir Chanticleer, before being arranged again for standard eight-part choirs. New Choir premiered the first version for choir since Chanticleer's in November 2025, and tonight reprises that performance with some explanation and exploration of the composition and our musical process.
The New Choir of Mount Vernon
New Choir of Mount Vernon brings together singers of a wide range of musical backgrounds through thought-provoking and accessible programs, and challenging and inclusive rehearsals. At just two years old, we’re one of the newest organizations in the area’s choral landscape, contributing to the artistic vibrancy of Midtown Baltimore.
Established in 2024 by artistic director William Myers-Ortiz.
