Artist Spotlight: The Lantern Sisters

IN PLAIN SIGHT(site) is the immersive performance series we’ve been doing during the pandemic. Each iteration, a cycle of artists present new work exploring the concept of PORTALS. Audiences navigate the performances as they rise and fall across the space. In part five of IN PLAIN SIGHT(site), a new cycle of artists continue this exploration of portals and doorways to other realities on Saturday, February 7th, at 8PM.

We're highlighting the artists you'll see all this week!

Meet The Lantern Sisters

The Lantern Sisters are a collaborative duo comprised of Baltimore-based multidisciplinary artists Katherine Fahey and Dan Van Allen. They make performances and tell stories through the arts of shadow puppetry, papercutting, and crankies (a bygone form of visual performance involving a cranked scroll of artwork in a box). The stories and songs they perform often root themselves in folk tale traditions, both regionally and from around the world.

The performances are much like sitting around a fireside: warm illuminations of life in darkened spaces. In the summer of 2021, the duo converted their Volkswagen bus into a rolling stage so that they could bring their shows to parks and sidewalks around Baltimore City.
